ITS SIMPLE. you only shoot what you want. why does every one bring up the fact"well you cant release it " no kidding! spearos dont want to release what we shoot. we pull the trigger for a reason! we see it, we want it, we take it. obviously you just dont understand the sport. its the most conservative fishing out there.

Experienced divers carry several small pieces of coral or shells and when a fish is reluctant to come into spear range, rubbing or clicking draws them closer. Throwing up sand also will bring a fish closer and helps to camouflage the diver. Contact with coral should be avoided as this may damage the reef. Blue water divers will float on the surface 100 yards from their boat and continue to rap a dive knife or a softer object against their spear gun until a big one comes to investigate.

I dont know why but almost all fish calm down when u grab them around the throat/gills.

hey can some one tell me why the fish is not thrashing about just before it gets knifed/dispatched? is it becasue the fingers are in the gills or something ?

I've caught fish with by lure, bait, fly, rocks, bow & arrow, Spear and bare hands. I decide each and everytime if i will keep or release a fish or not. one thing i do like about the spear is that it is such a selective way to fish. No tiddlers and no accidental dameage to undersized fish
