The taper actually prevents turbulence and allows the band to move faster through the water. I really doubt that it makes any noticeable difference in performance though.

It helps a little with the dyneema wishbone to allow the ends to lay flat and streamline a little I guess. Also it looks a little cleaner I think. There is no advantage that I have seen as far as performance.

Excellent tutorials!You can use a nail inserted into the open end of the band. Grab the nail head with your other hand for a better control of the band finish.
